I really enjoy the artwork in this hotel restaurant. The ambiance is fancy, yet old New Mexico. We had a $40 breakfast credit and just loved the red chile. The down side of this place is that coffee is $4.50. Geez! That is soooo not ok. The second day we were there, we got our coffee for free in the lobby and took it into the restaurant. I highly recommend the chorizo burrito for breakfast.

We are staying here, so tried breakfast on our first morning here. I ordered oatmeal and a small fruit plate. The fruit was all perfectly ripe except the cantaloupe. Delicious raspberries, honeydew, blackberries, pineapple and blueberries. Hubby had the huevos rancheros and bacon and was still full at two in the afternoon. It is definitely pricey, but very good! We also tried their green chili stew for lunch which is excellent. Hint: you can order just a cup for about $5... This is not mentioned on the menu. Enjoy!!

Pathetic waste of marketing yourself as a top tier restaurant. The patio is pleasant enough but there is clearly little thought to what makes a good restaurant. Breakfast is tasty...when you get it, and the service or the kitchen can't seem to bring you your food within a reasonable wait. It comes hot, so essentially the kitchen can't handle a not unreasonable amount of people at the tables. And you can get a carafe of coffee at IHOP, Even though waiters are plentiful to refill for you. But not here. Your an outdoor patio restaurant with ambient temperature in the 60s at breakfast, and the staff is nowhere around to refill your cup. So you either have no coffee or cold coffee. Dinner is worse. This place can't blame the soon change in ownership to fix it's problems. There are managers that should be paying attention to them now for the current customers that are paying for the hype.

El Fuego es no bueno. I'm sad to say that one of the nicest hotels in Santa Fe has one of the most disappointing restaurants. The everything we ordered was mediocre at best, ill spare the details but bottom line is that there is much better food to be had in Santa Fe than the pseudo-gourmet offered here (even dessert was boring and overpriced). And I hate to say it but the service was also really lacking the sophistication you're paying for; clearing plates before everyone is finished is really unacceptable if you ask me, especially in a fine dining establishment! My mother was unhappy with something on her plate(a nasty bitter rice side dish) and the waitress made NO effort to fix it, she literally just said "oh ok" then walked away. Come on, offer to bring something as a replacement! At nearly $30 an entree, not offering 70 cents worth of extra asparagus as a replacement is really just not ok. For the amount of money you pay to eat here, I shouldn't be saying any of this. P.s. the ice cream is not made on premise... So why they charged $7 for the1 scoop of vanilla ice cream with some sprinkled Carmel brittle pieces is beyond me. Can you tell how disappointed I am?!

We went for Christmas dinner - the restaurant space was much more dull than the website advertises. The food was average at best. The service was ok. Overall for the price, it was a huge disappointment!! Xmas fail.

We have been eating at Fuego and grabbing more casual fare (burgers etc) at the bar (Staab House) for years and have always been 4-stars happy. The burgers were always exceptional and our meals in the restaurant varied from quite good to outstanding, with pretty good service in the restaurant (sometimes forgetful of special requests or follow-up beverages). So, 4-stars. Tonight was the first time we've been there since the chef revamped the menu to merge the restaurant and bar menu favorites and add a number of new dishes tested and developed during prix-fixe menu nights. Oh. My. Goodness. It was wonderful. I had a cold avocado cucumber soup that did NOT skimp on the lime juice and was garnished with a very hefty chunk of lobster meat. A touch of soy milk rounds it out (really, the perfect choice, as strange as it sounds). I Tart, cold, fresh, flavorful, and completely delightful. Followed up with a ceviche cubano salad - ceviche with shrimp, scallop, and a third whitefish - I can't recall which at the moment - with finely diced peppers and fresh lime, served atop of a bed of mixed greens with a half avocado fried tempura style, with what I'm guessing was an aioli in the avocado's divet *inside the tempura shell*.... It was amazing. The perfect balance of fresh, tart, crisp, and light, with the richness of the fried avocado. Balance balance balance. I basically moaned my way through every bite. My fiance had a delightful caesar salad (nothing to shout about, but a well done caesar) followed by a perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned (i.e., not too seasoned, but just enough to bring out the flavor of the meat itself) filet mignon with truffle fries and asparagus. Best steak he's had in a long time (including the filet he had at the Compound just last month). As long time regulars of Fuego/Staab House, we are THRILLED with the new menu. I've previously had some of the new items during Restaurant Week and other times when they ran them as specials. The cherry-chocolate mole duck breast and bacon-wrapped scallops were wonderful as specials and are welcome additions to the menu. We LOVE that we can now order the full panoply of menu items easily from the bar when we're looking for a wonderful meal in a more casual environment. Thanks to the chef for making this small but meaningful change. I will add that the service has always been impecable in the bar, where I sometimes feel forgotten by our servers when we eat in the main dining room. Not sure if this was just bad luck or not, but the bar service is really quite friendly, efficient, and responsive. So, keep it up and we'll keep spending our money here!

the food was passable, but for the money, there is far better in Santa Fe. Our family went for a pre-opera dinner. We had several appetizers, soups, and salads, as well as a cross section of items from the main menu and kids menu. There was nothing horrible, although the thai horchada coconut soup barely passed that bar. My ancho chile relleno was very bland, and my wifes chicken pesto sandwich was a solid $10 sandwich, but not worth the money. Buffalo burger was uninteresting and burned on the edges. If this were a $ or a $$ restaurant, this review would be a 3 ish star. As a sandwich shop, this would be 4 star. As a top tier Santa Fe hotel restaurant - meh...

My husband and I had dinner here and were very pleased. The food was excellent- for appetizers we got the duck confit and the foie gras- which were both delicious. For our entrees we got the lamb (incredible! Our favorite part of the meal.) and the beef tenderloin, which was cooked perfectly. The dessert and wine were equally decadent and flavorful. The service was friendly- my only complaint was it took them a very long time to take our order (even though there were only two other tables there.) Even after we were obviously ready, menus closed, it was a solid 15 before the host came over and said "The waiter is really busy, so I'll try to take your order." Really busy.... ? With 6 other people in the entire restaurant? Then the wrong appetizers were brought out to us, which they quickly replaced after we told them it was not what we ordered. I would highly recommend this place on the food alone and the service was very friendly, just slow.

Bad food bad service. Got the tamales that were dry and crumbly. Green chili good but red was terrible. Skip this place.

On a recent Friday night we were looking for a reasonably nice place to celebrate our twenty-fifth date together. We decided on Fuego because we knew there was going to be music at La Posada de Santa Fe. What we didn't know was that the music venue was held separate from the restaurant, but no matter. We may have missed the always lively musical stylings of Nacha Mendez, but we spent an hour and a half enjoying a long luxurious meal, both relaxing and delicious, in a setting where we could simply enjoy the evening and each other, for what turned out to be quite the experience. Without delay, we were led to a table set back into a cozy corner and were seated beside each other, in a vantage one could only say was optimal for people watching. The dining room was a quiet, candlelit affair, in a warm-toned space with excellent low-hanging chandeliers, with only a few other patrons to enjoy it that evening. The way the tables were angled induced a sense of privacy and intimacy, making it seem as if the other patrons were too far away to hear us talk and laugh, and the other way around. To start, we ordered a certain Pinot Noir and his lady-friend miss Pinot Grigio from their decent wine list--nice bodies, nice legs, and good noses on both. A good glass of wine is always a good sign, I like to think. So, glasses in hand, we listened as our server offered up his opinion of that evening's entrees, including suggesting that we circumvent a certain fish that particular night. He recommended, instead, the Lamb Shank and the Pork Tenderloin, two items we'd already been considering from other yelp reviewers, as well as menu description and good ole gut feelings. And so with some confidence, we ordered those and threw in the Calamari Fries for good measure. Slightly new to seafood, my date loved the calamari fries. They were a new, fresh and crispy, take on an old app favorite, and the sweet and sour three-chile dipping sauce provided a nice little kick in the taste buds. The entrées arrived as soon as we were ready for them, hot off the stove top. It's hard to stress enough how important that is, but you know it matters if you've ever been served something cold, interrupting the appetizer's opening act. The Lamb Shank was so tender I had to force myself to use a knife just so that my old finishing school masters didn't roll over in their graves. The glazed meat seriously melted off the bone, like buttah one could say, and wasn't the slightest bit gamey as lamb can often be. The asadero roasted corn polenta was the perfect foil to the lamb protagonist. It was creamy, savory, and should be up for best supporting actor. But let's face it, it'll probably be robbed. The Pork Tenderloin with the apple brandy mushroom gravy, Serrano ham sweet potato brussel hash, and basmati rice, is quite a mouthful, but each mouthful a great one at that. Each flavor listed above was readily available for the palate to peruse and praise. I don't even feel guilty about stealing a second bite right off of her plate, even if I'd very nearly lost a hand in the process. It would have been well worth it. Fuego was exactly what we were looking for, even if we'd found it by accident. The food and the ambiance were perfect that night, but personally, it was the service, the attention to the little details that made our meal memorable, from our server warning us away from a sketchy upstream swimmer, to refilling of our wine glasses (on the house), and producing a bit of literature on the hotel's haunted house guest, after simply overhearing us mention our interest in the famous Staab House history. It was those little things, and perhaps the pinon nuts atop the chocolate truffle at the end of the meal, that made it all sweetly serendipitous, that made us turn to each other and say, "Now that was the best meal I've had in a long while, if not ever," and thus made me write my first yelp review. Hope you enjoy Fuego as we did, a new Santa Fe favorite of ours.

Great, great restaurant. Not a five star, only because the dessert was listed as chocolate raspberry cake with strawberry ice cream but it was really strawberry sorbet. So not perfect. Service was impeccible, but possibly because only three tables were in service. The corn soup was outstanding-thin not chowder possibly put through a cheese cloth to serve with a dollop of goat cheese. My short ribs were boneless with a wonderful sauce. My husbands deer (poor bambi) he said was delicious and served the perfect temperture. Very attentive lovely place for a romantic evening.

Fantastic food, service and ambience! My wife and I will be back on our next trip to Santa Fe. We both had the prefix menu, I had the pepper corn encrusted steak and she had the Cod. Both were perfectly cooked and seasoned brilliantly. The soap, tomato with peppers was also very tasty. Dessert was crème Brui lay and was a bit too much to be honest. All in all a great eating experience.

It's our first time in Santa Fe and we are really looking forward to great food and great service at this hotel restaurant. But, we were greeted by the hostess with an presumptuous attitude. She said "Fuego is fine dining. You are looking for a casual cafe that's at the bar or there're sandwiches at the patio". Basically suggesting that those would be more appropriate for us! Even if she's not trying to be rude, that just left a bad taste in my mouth. We looked at all the menus and the prices are not all that different and we came for Fuego so we asked to be seated there. The dining room, by the way, only had one other table of guests. It was 7:15pm Friday. Hmmm.... Onward to our food...it was actually very good. I had the duck with lentils and the skin was nice and crispy with tender meat. My husband had short ribs with mash potatoes and he finished everything. I tried a bite and the rib was juicy. The baby wedge salad was so-so, but it did the job of an appetizer. We had a simple sorbet dessert which was a nice refreshing ending to the meal. All in all, food was why I gave three stars. Our waiter was sometimes friendly and sometimes cold shoulders. I'm sure he wasn't trying to be snooty but sadly that's how he came across. My husband and I are both professionals in our late 30's in the finance industry and we have traveled all over the world and enjoyed a great many meals from the corner chai and donut shop in new York, to amazing seafood places in Cinque Terre, to impeccable 10-course banquets in Shanghai. This is Santa Fe people. Get real. Be hospitable to your patrons and maybe they will come back and spread the word about the restaurant. Obviously the wait and managerial staff doesn't care as much as the chef in the kitchen! If you are looking for a great restaurant with very professional and friendly service, go to Luminaria (just 3 blocks down the road).

This restaurant has beautiful decor and upscale ambiance. Our service was okay but pretty slow at times. The manager was very hoity toity and tried to pressure us into a more expensive bottle of wine. The food was decent; our group members had pasta, steak, and seafood, all of which were rated as "pretty good". All in all, I'm glad we visited once, but we probably won't be back. As you can tell from this review, it's fine but not especially noteworthy or worth a lot of words.

As a Santa Fe local, I thought I would spend Christmas Eve dining at Fuego. When Fuego called me to ask for a credit card guarantee, they failed to mention it was a very limited menu and 5 courses prix fixe. Well, the food came out so fast that all 5 courses were served within 60 minutes. The wait staff hovered over the tables and the moment the forks went down, the pulled the plates off, and replaced with the next course. The food was bland, prepared in bulk beforehand ..en masse. The wine list had outdated Vintages. The main Waiter Michael could not have been more Obsequious. And they forced a 20% tip for our party of two. The service deserved a 5% tip, but maybe this poor excuse for a Santa Fe Restaurant figured that out beforehand. $70.00 per person (not even listed on the menu) for mediocre food. We felt trapped in a Nightmare Before Christmas. Fortunately, I have been able to inform dozens of folks of my experience and I hope you learn as well. One good positive point, is that the restaurant is pretty. They just care about your $$$ and not the customer.

First of all it should be noted that this is not a stand alone restaurant. I was surprised after reading some other reviews that no one mentioned this was directly attached to La Posada Hotel. Despite this, the interior seating area and dining table were beautifully laid out and there was a well tended fire that we were seated near. A great bonus after a chilly evening walk. We arrived at 9pm to find the restaurant was empty, this was the case for the remainder of the evening (they roll up the sidewalks early in Santa Fe). The service was excellent despite this, and perhaps this may have improved the normal routine as we were the only ones seated. I was a tad surprised by the small selection on the menu. It's basically set up as a two course dining experience. For vegetarians like me there was a salad & mushroom option for the main course backed with a very hefty selection of meats for those that like to chew. My wife and I ordered drinks and a first course. Before long we were on to the main courses. I typically eat vegetarian but allow myself fish in rare cases, because of the limited menu and my appetite I ordered the salmon. The salmon arrived piping hot, tasted amazing and the presentation was stellar. My wife ordered the pear salad and said it was excellent. We ended the evening with deserts. I ordered the Mexican chocolate mouse and my wife had the apple crisp. We could have easily split one as they were quite large given the well portioned meal we had just ate. All in all a great experience, we spent over an hour and a half there. I don't imagine we'll be back soon with all the other places to explore in Santa Fe but it was well worth the experience.

Restaurant Week 2013 - good idea to try local cuisine, good service - that said, absolutely terrible meal. My wife and I had the green fried tomatores and mozzarella selection - a watery mess; black bean and asadero gordita; just ok, flavorless: entree; carne asada and desert, a bread pudding disaster. My wife is still sick due to this horrible meal. Never again, shame on you La Posada for such a poor showing, better not to participate in restaurant week. Chef needs to go back to basics. ZERO rating, no stars.

Outstanding food, excellent service, beautiful surroundings. Really A+. We had some things to do later in the evening so we showed up for dinner around 5:45, apparently 15 mins before they open, and were told that we could wait. We decided instead to head over to Viga (casual dining in the same hotel), but as soon as we sat down the manager of Fuego came to get us and said they'd open up early for us. Nice! We ended up having the dining room to ourselves for half our meal, which was really peaceful, and the servers seemed almost to be performing a dance, as soon as one thing was done the next was brought out in perfect tempo. Dinner was a fairly long affair, there were two amuse courses, bread, our salad/appetizer, palate cleansing passion fruit sorbet (extremely tart!), then dinner and desert/coffee. We had the duck and pork, both were outstanding, perfectly done, and fairly imaginative in their preparation. Fuego also has an extensive and impressive wine list. Highly recommend!

What a great time here at this cozy little place with the greatest service I have had in ages. Like the tray of knives to choose from for my main course. To the charming play on words as the pineapple juice which was a combination of apple juice and pine essence. What a treat. Everything from the first course to the last was a pleasure in all my senses. Also the wait staff was there to assist you for absolutely everything! We even got to sit at a nice couch side-by-side with tons of pillows and fireplace right next to us. Everytime you went to get up the wait staff would pull the table out for you! very high end comfort!
